Self Regulation - Minecraft 5 Point Scale

I have recently created a Minecraft 5 Point Scale to help my son learn to self-regulate. It has been working awesome and it helps him be more aware of when he is getting upset. It can be used for a variety of special needs kids like Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyspraxia, and ADHD. Please feel free to use it. If you would like to learn more about the concept behind the scale visit it's creator Kari Dunn Brown at www.5pointscale.com
The cool thing about the 5 point scale is that it is adaptable to any area of interest especially book or movies. If you think about it, a story always has a variety of characters with different temperaments that can be used.

Here is a link to a pdf file of the scale:

Thanks Katherine - my son and all his friends love Minecraft. It's funny to listen to us use the scale. I wonder what strangers think when they when they hear me say I am close to creeper level. LOL

Thanks for the idea and the resource. I'm editing it to base it on the Dragon's of Berk characters as my son is totally into them.

Love it Von Dubbeld. That's why I love the 5 Point Scale so much, it can easily be adapted to any book, Movie or TV show characters.

Thank you so much. My eldest son has Asperger and he has a hard time expressing. This will definitely be a great tool for him.

Thank you so much for creating this! I'm a speech therapist and I own a private practice in MD. I've used this scale with my clients and it's a total hit.

Thanks Christine - I'm so glad it's working for your clients. When I created the scale I wanted to try and make something really relatable to kids in this generation. But most importantly something that my son would understand intrinsically.

Hi. Love your scale. I would love to share it with members of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Would I have your permission to post a thumbnail image of your scale on AOTA's blog Checking the Pulse and then link to your blog post so that people could download the full scale? Please let me know if that would be OK. If you'd prefer to email, please use social@aota.org.
Thank you,
-Stephanie, AOTA's digital editor

Thanks Stephanie - I sent you an email :)

Re: your scale
The word that means something you have lost is spelled lose, not loose. Loose is a word meaning not tight.

Thanks Patty - I missed that the first go round. I tried to update that on all the files. Do you still see it somewhere in the post? Thanks

Great job. Thanks for sharing.

But you should know there is a typo on the #2 feelings box for Steve. It says "fells" instead of "feels". Also, when you open the file to print, the top (header?) doesn't show up at all. The "MINECRAFT Incredible five-point scale" and "helping kids regulate their frustration" parts are all missing. I tried both files without any luck. I was able to insert it on my own in Exel, but I like your format better. Just FYI.

:-)

The Jacobs said...

Thanks EPerez - I fixed the typo - spelling is not a strength of mine. :) I also updated the files to include the headers. If you click on the links now you should see it.

Thank you so much! :-)

I forgot to mention it's also cutting off the bottom and printing it out on two pages. Just in case you want to change that as well.

This is really so good and I plan on using this with my nephew and with my students. I'm a Speech-Language Pathologist working in an elementary school. Thanks again!

Awesome! It should all be fixed now. I did some re-arranging and it should all fit on one page. Please let me know if it doesn't for you.

I too have just stumbled across this, and feel like it could very much help with my 8 year old boy. I have tried both links - but both don't seem to work for me. Is there any way I can get a hold of a pdf of this minecraft 5 point scale? Thanks.
